City location
The project base is located in the core area of Zhenru Section, Putuo District, Shanghai, which is an important component of Zhenru City Sub-center. The south side of the base is adjacent to Jiaotong Road and Shanghai West Railway Station, and the north side is Wanli Community.

Shanghai West Railway Station has a long history. In 1905, with the construction of Shanghai-Nanjing Railway, a station was initially set up there. In 1907 (the thirty-third year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty), the Shanghai-Nanjing Railway was officially opened when it was opened to traffic. The station was originally named Zhenru Station, which was only a two-lane station on the Shanghai-Nanjing Line at that time. In 1946, the station was renamed Zhenru Station. After 1957, Zhenru Station successively built Taipingqiao Freight Yard and Shiquan Road Freight Yard, and together with Shanghai East Railway Station, it became the main freight station of Shanghai Railway Hub. In 1986, the passenger transport facilities of Zhenru Station were completely updated, and the departure, arrival and stop of passenger trains were handled. The station was changed from a single freight station to a passenger and freight station. On January 1, 1989, the station was renamed Shanghai West Railway Station.

Challenges and opportunities coexist
The project faces diversified challenges: I. TOD conditions of four-line transfer bring convenient transportation and overall improvement of business management to the project, but it also brings great technical challenges to the project. The completed Line 15 passes through the base from underground, which limits the height of the building above it. The basement of the project will also be divided into two parts by the subway line. The subway also has strict retreat requirements for the layout of super skyscrapers. II. There are historically protected buildings in the base, and more than half of them have been damaged. It is the primary task to repair and protect the buildings. How to reasonably place and utilize the historically protected building in the overall planning has also become an important topic of the project. III. Except for the south side of the base, the east, west and north sides are surrounded by built residential areas. While the residential area brings close-fitting customers to the business, the layout of high-rise buildings in the project is limited due to strict sunshine conditions.

02 Planning and Design

Suture the city
The existence of Shanghai West Railway Station and Railway not only brings intercity people flow to Zhenru area, but also separates surrounding cities in physical space, resulting in inconvenient transportation between north and south and discontinuous urban space, which hinders the integration of Putuo Zhenru Sub-center. The project puts forward the concept of "Suture the City", fully studies the surrounding urban environment and traffic conditions, and then carries out integrated planning and design. Through the above-ground and underground three-dimensional transportation system, we can create an effective series of blocks and promote the re-embrace of the north and south urban spaces of the West Railway Station.

“MIX·LINK”
The planning and design realizes the design concept of "MIX·LINK" through the reuse of historically protected buildings, the maximum utilization of existing urban traffic and surrounding environmental resources, and the forward-looking design of Kechuang headquarters and a large commercial center with a construction area of about 120,000㎡, connecting "history, present and future".

Plural functions
The total construction area of the project is about 529,600㎡, including multiple formats such as the headquarters office with a construction area about 127,000㎡, the shopping center with a construction area about 100,000㎡, the garden commercial group with a construction area about 18,000㎡, talent apartment with a construction area about 9,500㎡ and residential building with a construction area about 138,000㎡.

Planning and layout
In the planning and design, the residence will be arranged on the northeast side of Block 03 and Block 02 on the east side of the project, close to the surrounding existing residential areas. About 150m office super skyscrapers and about 180m office super skyscrapers are arranged on the south side of Block 01 and Block 02 respectively, and the two towers are basically arranged in parallel with the traffic road, which becomes the city image on the south side of the project.
As a podium of about 180m super skyscraper, the shopping center is arranged on the south side of Block 02, which is close to the underground north-south passage of subway and West Railway Station, which is most beneficial to the arrival of commercial people. The north side of Block 02 combines historically protected buildings to form a characteristic cultural commercial block. There are also multi-storey commercial and government supporting buildings in Block 01. It is a great test for the project planning team to rationally plan such rich functions and form the synergy of complex projects.

"Smart" facade design
For building facade design, different skin languages corresponding to a variety of internal functional space are used to achieve the perfect unity of form and function.
For about 180m of tower stacking volume, the glass facade that is bright in vertical direction and hiding in horizontal direction should be used, and the facade is clean and unified. The facade on the east and west sides of the tower should be the double-layer unit practice, the inner side should be the unit glass facade, and the outer hanging points are reserved between the layers. The outer aluminum plate box is composed of steel skeleton and folded aluminum plate, which is assembled by factory module and hung and hoisted on site. The facade enriches the expression of the tower facing the city, and combines the lighting design to form a beautiful scenery at night.

TOD traffic ring
The project is a four-line transfer to TOD (Metro Lines 11, 15 and 20 (under planning) and high-speed rail line), covering a variety of urban functions such as office, commerce, residence and culture, and is an urban complex of TOD5.0 mode.
Based on TOD integrated design, a composite transportation system is constructed, and the building is connected in series with three subways (Line 20 is under planning), China Railway, long-distance passenger station and bus station through underground passage, sunken plaza, ground entrance and exit, air high-speed line bridge and other means to form a "TOD Traffic Ring".
The efficient and interoperable public transportation system improves the experience and efficiency, and also promotes the overall improvement of the commercial office of the project.

TOD sunken plaza
The 300m long underground commercial moving line connects the underground space of the whole project in series, and seamlessly connects with Line 11, Line 15, Line 20 (under planning) and the North-South Passage of West Railway Station through three carefully designed TOD sunken plazas. People can walk to shopping malls, offices or go up to the ground to the surrounding communities through the sunny sunken plazas.
Citizen Celebration Square
Through communication and consultation with relevant departments of subway and China Railway, the project will transform the original ground ancillary facilities and entrances and exits of subway and China Railway in the base, reset the subway cooling tower and wind shaft combined with shopping center, and transform the original ground entrances and exits into sunken plaza, finally forming a celebration square on the ground, which is not only a gathering place for people's leisure activities, but also a container for urban life.
