The predecessor of Sunac Center is Tianjin Tractor Manufacturing Corp. Ltd., which was the pride of Tianjin people in the 1960s and witnessed the industrial glory of the last century. The project includes the transformation of the old factory building area, the new commercial complex and the residential supporting facilities. Among them, the D+G and I+J plots are mainly based on the transformation of the old factory building, and the residential supporting facilities are attached; the N+O plot is dominated by new commercial complexes, including the sunken square design.


The building facade of this project uses a large number of shale bricks, which is in line with the aesthetic orientation of local people. Sintered shale brick has good durability and is not easy to change color. Its unique line texture can also increase the decorative effect of the wall through a variety of masonry methods. In order to reflect the traces of the old factory building, we design a large number of rusted steel plate. The uneven texture and obvious texture of the corroded steel plate highlight the sense of the old factory building, and also echo the color of the shale brick. The metal aluminum plate of the outer skin of the building is sprayed with rust red metal paint, and the texture is delicate and straight, which complements the main wall of the red brick.

The predecessor of Wuhan 1890 was Hanyang Iron Factory founded by Zhang Zhidong, a famous minister in the late Qing Dynasty, in 1890. It was the earliest official iron and steel enterprise in modern China. The project was launched in 2019 and is positioned as the 'National Industrial Culture Protection Model Area' and 'Wuhan Hotbed Art Industry Core Area'. It is currently the largest and most concentrated industrial site renovation project in Wuhan. As one of the most important spaces of Hanyang Iron Factory, the bar mill is currently the largest single building of industrial sites in Asia.


When investigating the site before the renovation, we found that the overall renovation conditions of the bar mill were not optimistic: first, the original roof truss was in disrepair for a long time, and it was difficult to evaluate its bearing capacity conditions; second, the structure, beam and column bearing capacity of the plant system do not meet the current requirements. For this purpose, Forcitis designed and repaired roofs and wall panels; optimize the organization of drainage and sky waterproof, using almost the same color of aluminum magnesium manganese plate; update the original wall damaged small field lattice glass window. The overall goal is to strengthen the sense of ritual at the entrance and enhance the imprint of history and time through steel plate weathering+natural corrosion after completion.
